McFadden Stakes His Claim
Author : Archerfield Speedway
World Series Sprintcars Champion James McFadden staked his claim for a second Australian Sprintcar Championship crown with yet another impressive drive to win the Championship's Night Two Preliminary Feature at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway and earn himself top spot in overall qualifying points heading into tonight's Final.
McFadden led all but one lap of the twenty-five lap Preliminary race, losing the lead momentarily to Robbie Farr in traffic before quickly regaining the upper hand the next go around. Farr would lose second spot to Murcott with just three laps left to run and Murcott could consider himself unlucky not to have had the chance to battle James for the win in the final lap when James' run to the chequers was slowed by heavy lapped traffic.
Defending Champion Brooke Tatnell had a night to forget with incidents in two of his qualifying Heat races putting paid to his chances of making the twenty car field for the Preliminary, albeit by just one spot. Conversely, Max Dumesny looked every bit the multi-time Australian and World Series Sprintcar Champion that he is by qualifying fourth for the Prelim and was running third and closing on the leaders when he got caught up in the spin of a lapped car on lap eight. Max's legion of fans around the country will be heartened by his performance.
James McFadden opened his campaign and the night's proceedings by setting Fast Time with an 11.744s lap ahead of Dumesny (11.956s), Ian Madsen (11.984s), Ronnie Barber (12.041) and Robbie Farr (12.049). Heat race wins went the way of Jamie Stark, Mark Pholi, Adrian O'Connell, Shaun Dobson, David Murcott (2), Darren Jensen, David Muir and Robbie Farr.
Racing continues tonight (Saturday) with the third and final night of the Supercheap Auto Australian Sprintcar Championship featuring the remaining Heat races for all competitors, C and B Mains Top 8 ShootOut and forty lap Championship Final . General admission gates open 3:30pm, early racing from 5:00pm, main programme from 6:00pm.
