With three nights of the annual Summer Of Speed in the books at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway where fans have been already witnessed plenty of top shelf racing, the intensity is set to increase even further with the fifty lap, $20,000 to win World Series Sprintcars Australian Sprintcar Open presented by Performance Wholesale the next event on the list at Qld's Home Of Speedway.
American Donny Schatz has made this race his own in recent years and will be gunning for a record-extending fifth win in the event this weekend. Standing in his way however is undoubtedly a very tough field of drivers from around Australia and across the United States who will all be out to break Schatz's dominance with a victory of their own.
The list of drivers for the Open is an exceptional one. Schatz, Stewart, Kaeding, Sides, Dover and Hirst from the USA, Tatnell, Farr, Murcott, Lines, Green and Dillon head the interstate list while the "locals" have as good a chance as ever with names like McFadden, Scheuerle, Gessner, Reidy, Muir, Wanless, Mann and Lack in the line-up. Don't be mistaken, just qualifying through Friday night's Heat races, making the Preliminary Feature and backing it up on Saturday night to make it into the eighteen car field for the Open will be a mammoth task in itself!
It's race after race after race this weekend at Archerfield with two huge nights of racing for the fans with not only the Open on the programme but the Australian Modlite Championship as well. Both will have nine qualifying Heat races plus a Preliminary Feature on Friday night followed by more Heats on Saturday plus the Shootouts, Scrambles, C-Main, B-Mains and of course the A-Mains to close out a massive two night programme.
