Blingy Steals The Win
Author : Archerfield Speedway
David "Blingy" Muir made it two for two for the Queenslanders against the Americans in the second of the Sprintcar Internationals at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night December 29, defying the odds and running down five time World Of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz on the line to steal the win by just 0.081 of a second!
Schatz and Muir shared the front row for the thirty-five lap KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship Feature with Schatz quickly jumping to the lead, a position he would hold until the dying stages of the race. Muir, part of a new and exciting generation of racers who know how to put a show on for the fans, has long had a never say die attitude to his racing and showed all his tenacity to steal the lead from the Outlaws Champ with just a handful of laps remaining and took the chequers by one of the closest margins in the history of the venue.
The victory would be even sweeter for Muir who looked set to win the Boxing Night event until a late race incident in lapped traffic put an end to his chances and that of Darren Jensen. Both teams burned the midnight oil to return to Archerfield for last night's event with Jensen also qualifying for the A-Main and finishing fifteenth.
Track Championship contenders Andrew Scheuerle, Todd Wanless and Danny Reidy kept alive their tense battle for the KRE crown by finishing third through fifth respectively with American Jack Dover backing up his Boxing Night run where he led the Feature for a number of laps with a solid sixth place finish. Dan Murray, Brock Dean, Bryan Mann and Tim Garrett completed the top ten.
In other results, Michael Kendall was the class of the field in the Polar Ice Qld Midget Car Series, setting Fast Time before going on to comfortably win the twenty lap Feature from Matt Greenwood and Anthony Chaffey. David Eggins won the Wingless Sprint Feature from Wayne Lemon and Michael Santin while Brody Fraser-McGee took the win in the ASCF Feature ahead of Maddi McGee and Stephen English
Racing continues at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway on Tuesday night January 1 with the third Sprintcar International featuring Schatz and Dover plus V8 Dirt Modifieds, the Lil Car Demo Derby, a huge New Year Fireworks show plus support class racing on the programme.
