Open Wheel Racing Festival At Archerfield Speedway

Fans of open wheel oval track racing will have a little extra to be happy about this week with Saturday night's programme at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway featuring nothing but open wheel classes in a big night of racing headlined by Round 4 of the KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship and the third Round of the Polar Ice Midget Car Series.
Sprintcars, Midgets, Wingless Sprints, Lightning Sprints, Compacts and Formula 500 drivers will take to the 1/4 mile raceway chasing valuable points toward their respective season-long Championships, the first time all six classes have competed alongside each other exclusively on the one programme.
Early nominations indicate another strong field of around thirty Sprintcar drivers including the return of former Series and State Champion Darrell Hodges who will pilot the Voight Contracting #20 previously wheeled by Luke Oldfield while the Polar Ice Midget races will feature American Alex Bright who will renew his battle with five-time New Zealand Champion Michael Kendall after narrowly defeating the Kiwi in the second Round of the POWRi Super Series recently.
The name Wanless appears on two separate nomination lists with KRE Round 1 winner Todd looking to consolidate his top three position in the Championship standings while daughter Brooke will roll out in the #24 Wingless Sprint.
In what is also becoming more of a regular occurrence for a few drivers over the past couple of seasons, Brett Thomas and Brock Dean have filed both Sprintcar and Midget entries and will do double duty this Saturday night.
