The most prestigious event on the National V8 Dirt Modified calendar will be contested over the Queensland May Day long weekend, Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5, 2013. Over 30 of Australia's leading V8 Dirt Modified drivers are expecting to attend the Championship, which was last staged in Brisbane in 2010.
" We are all pretty excited to be bringing the Australian Championship back to Brisbane" said Dirt Modifieds Australia Gary Wathen. " John and Kathy Kelly are big supporters of V8 Dirt Modifieds and it's great to be able to showcase the best V8 Dirt Modifieds in the country in a major metropolitan market"
Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway Promotor John Kelly is pleased to add the event to his season calendar.
" The V8 Dirt Modifieds always put on exciting racing at our track" said Kelly." With Robbo and the Britten boys: Peter and young Kevin, along with David Clarke and perhaps Luke Oldfield, we are in for another fantastic show. We support events like the Australian Championship to give our fans the opportunity to see the very best, whether it be USA Sprintcar drivers we bring in like Donny Schatz and little Rico (Abreu) or events like the Open or Australian Sprintcar Championship. Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway will be the place to be next season, don’t you worry about that!"
The Championship had originally been awarded to the Esperance Speedway in Western Australia, however an agreement was unable to be reached in relation to hosting the event.
The Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway has played host to the Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship twice over the past decade, with Mark Robinson (NSW, 2005) and Peter Britten (QLD, 2010) claiming victories. With Queensland now home to arguably the toughest local V8 Dirt Modified competition in the country, the battle for the 2013 Championship is sure to be intense.
Further details in relation to the Championship will be released as they are finalised.
