Scheuerle Wins, Narrows Points Chase
Author : Archerfield Speedway

Andrew Scheuerle raced his way to a decisive victory in Round 13 of the KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night May 12, the Feature win his second of the season in Brisbane and an important one with his points haul narrowing the points chase as he, Bryan Mann and David Muir continue their battle for the Series crown.

Scheuerle's win was a reminder of how tough it can be to win at Qld's Home of Speedway with the Ausdeck Patios And Roofing backed driver leading home a very well credentialed top five that many punters would have been hard pressed to select a clear winner from.

Second across the line in the thirty-lap Feature was current World Series Sprintcars Champion James McFadden who continues to impress in the #67 Supercheap Auto entry out of the Paul Morris Motorsport stable while third was fellow WSS regular Danny Reidy who has been in good form at Archerfield in recent times with a number of podium finishes.

Fourth was Garry Brazier who had journeyed north with Rocket Industries team mate Matt Young to try their hand against Qld's best in one of the final KRE races for the 2011/12 season, the six-time Australian Champion a welcome addition to the field at Archerfield Speedway this weekend and was coming on strong late in the race.

David Muir rounded out the top five, somehow bringing the #18 home when at one point he literally drove the car around turns three and four against the wall without losing a spot. "Blingy's" love of the Archerfield highline took on new meaning as he battled to keep it on the wheels and in the race and his fifth place finish keeps his chances of a maiden Series crown alive.

Todd Wanless in sixth place fared much better than his team mate Jason Kendrick on the night, the young gun from WA and 2012 West Aussie Champ having a night to forget in the #51 J&J and keeping his crew busy after finding the wall in a Heat race before winning the B-Main to transfer to the Feature. Kendrick's lack of luck continued however and he failed to complete the thirty lap distance and watched the final laps of the race from the hill.

KRE point leader Bryan Man put in a solid tradesman like effort to finish seventh and will hold top spot on the ladder heading into the next Round of the Championship on May 26. Mann's lead will have been cut but he has two Rounds remaining to consolidate that lead and hold off the charge of both Muir and Scheuerle in order to claim the silverware come the 2011/12 season's Sprintcars Qld Presentation Dinner.

Paul Rooks, Brett Thomas and Matt Young completed the A-Main top ten with Steven Johnson and Luke Oldfield the only other two to take the chequers. Brad Ayres, Brent Kratzmann, Kendrick, Kevin Titman, Darren Jensen and Ben Hilder all recorded a DNF, the latter two out on the opening lap when Jensen spun in front of the field in turn one and flipped the #75.

Heat race wins went to Brent Kratzmann, Andrew Scheuerle, Darren Jensen, Brad Ayres, Paul Rooks and Ben Hilder while Scheuerle also won the Dash from Muir, Reidy, Brazier, Wanless and McFadden. Brent Kratzmann, Kevin Titman and Steve Johnson joined Jason Kendrick as the four drivers to transfer from the B-Main.

In other racing on the night, Mick Wilson led home Gary Hudson and Wayne Corbett in the Paul Messer Memorial event for the Compact Speedcars while Blair Granger won the Dryden Signs Late Model Feature from Kevin Stow and Paul Carlish. Australian Champion Dave Fanning was untroubled in the Lightning Sprints Feature, likewise for Michael Kendall in the Modlites Feature.

Racing continues at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway next Friday night with Quarter Midget racing followed on Saturday night with the Auto Upgrade Midget Fifty Lapper the main event on the programme.
