The Fans Will Be Happy; Brazier Vs Mcfadden At Archerfield
Author : Archerfield Speedway
Many race fans lament the onset of the Speedway racing off-season, the cooler Winter months seemingly dragging on and sitting at home on the couch watching the footy just doesn't quite give them the same buzz as going to the races. Time seems to move slowly as they think back to those special races of the season just past and they wait impatiently for the new season to begin. Luckily in Qld, race fans get to go to the races much longer into each year than their southern counterparts do and one of those "special" races will take place this Saturday night when Garry Brazier and James McFadden go head to head at Archerfield.
Long-time race fans will be able to draw many parallels between the careers of Brazier and McFadden and many of them will indeed look back to the early days of "The Braz" and remember fondly the young blonde haired fella from Sydney that took the Australian Sprintcar scene by storm in the early 90's. Fast forward to 2012 and McFadden has been carving out a similar path of his own.
Brazier came from good stock - both his father and grandfather were racing Champions - he was fast and brash and was winning races before the elder statesman of the sport at the time realised it was more than just beginner's luck. Garry has gone on to win six Australian Sprintcar Championships, a World Series Sprintcar Championship, numerous State Titles and countless Feature races around the country. Oh, and he is still one of the very best in the land despite a sometimes turbulent career that has at times polarised him with the fans but whichever way you look it, he can be counted as one of the most gifted drivers in the sport's history.
Look to the other side of the pit area and there sits James McFadden. Bursting onto the scene before he could legally drive on the road, James has ticked plenty of boxes of his own over the past five years or so. His numbers may not yet equate those of Brazier's but he too has State and Australian Championship winner's trophies in the cabinet, is the reigning World Series Sprintcar Champion and has plenty of Feature race victories around the country as well. James is very fast, something he proved last Saturday night when he stepped into the Paul Morris Motorsport #67 Supercheap Auto J&J for the first time and rattled off an 11.560s lap at Archerfield to set quick time for the Qld Sprintcar Championship.
Brazier's nomination for this Saturday night's KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship event at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway, and that of his Rocket Industries team mate Matt Young, lifts the field to twenty-six drivers and raises the stakes in the race for the Series crown between Bryan Mann, Andrew Scheuerle and David Muir. With just three Rounds to go this season, the top three contenders will soon need to make a decision to either race for points or believe that in going for the win each week then the points will ultimately take care of themselves.
Saturday night's programme is a big one for open wheel fans with not only the Sprintcars but also the Polar Ice Midget Car Series, the Wingless Sprints Fifty Lapper, Limited Sprints and Micro Sprints on the card plus support class racing from the BIS Sedans and Sigmas. General admission gates open from 4:00PM, early racing from 4:30PM and the main programme scheduled for a 6:00PM start.
