Remembering Crispy; Racing To Honour A Mate
Author : Archerfield Speedway

Just over four years ago, many members of the Qld Speedway community woke to the sad news that we had lost a mate through the night, that Greg "Crispy" McLennan had been taken from us all too soon. A fixture at Speedway meetings for much of his adult life, Crispy worked for a number of Midget and Sprintcar teams while also helping a number of young drivers kick off their racing careers at kart meetings, working in Speedway shops and taking on caretaker roles at both Brisbane and Toowoomba Speedways.

When the field of close to forty Sprintcar drivers take to the track at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway this weekend they won't only be racing for the East Coast Logistics Tri-City Sprintcar Shootout crown, presented by Tyrepower, they will also be competing for the coveted Crispy Memorial Trophy named in honour of Greg. The annual event on the Qld Sprintcar schedule is a fitting tribute to the man that seemingly everyone in Speedway knew and conversely, who seemed to know and wanted to help everyone.

Cameron Gessner and Robbie Farr are both previous winners of the Crispy Memorial, and both are making the trek across the country to Qld from their WA bases for the three nights of the Shootout in which Brisbane will host the second Round. Gessner won the inaugural Crispy event and backed it up twice to go three for three while Farr, the winner of the last year's event, is also the defending Tri-City Shootout Champion after edging out American Bud Kaeding and NT's Danny Reidy for the 2011 Title.

It's a special Easter Saturday night of wing and non-wing Sprintcar racing at the Archerfield raceway, with the Wingless guys running their own Qld Easter Trail alongside the Tri-City Shootout and drawing a very good field of their own led by Qld Champion Daniel Moes, Club Championship point score leader Wayne Lemon and NSW racer Karl Skelton.

Also featuring on what is a bumper programme for Easter Speedway fans in Brisbane are the Qld Title races for Ford v Holden Sedans, BIS Sedans and Sigmas plus there's a huge Easter Fireworks Spectacular for the kids!

Online ticketing is available through the Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway website at brisbanespeedway.com.au - Visa and MasterCard accepted - with this advance purchasing option open until 1:00pm on race day and providing ticket holders earlier admission to the grounds.
