Tight Point Battles In Polar Ice Series

As the Polar Ice Qld Midget Car Series enters its final few Rounds for the 2011/12 season, the race for the overall crown and a top five finish is building with two distinct and tight point battles being played out between the top eight drivers on the leader board, battles that will continue this Saturday night when Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway hosts Round 7 of the Championship presented by Action Metal Recyclers.
Brendan Palmer currently holds down the top spot, courtesy of a three wins between December and February, from Grant Draney and Brock Dean. Forty-four points is the margin between the top three although it is only nine between Draney and Dean, the reigning QSRA Club Champion. Draney won Round 2 of the Series back in October and heads into Saturday night's event having finished on the podium in the last two Rounds.
The race for the final two top five spots is congested with Matt Greenwood, Michael Harders, Jeremy Hassell, Sid Whittaker and Todd Wanless all separated by just nineteen points and everything to race for. These five have all nominated for this weekend's race as has five time New Zealand Champion Michael Kendall who now calls the Gold Coast home.
The Midgets have just four more dates at Archerfield this season, with Polar Ice races also slated for April 14 and 28 and their final event of the season, the Auto Upgrade Midget Fifty Lapper which doubles as the Danny Davidson Memorial, set down for Saturday May 19 and expected to attract a number of interstate competitors.
Saturday night's programme at Archerfield includes the V8 Dirt Modifieds, Compact Speedcars, Modlites, Ford v Holden Sedans, Outlaw Sedans. General admission gates open at 4:00pm, early racing from 4:45pm, main programme from 6:00pm.
