International, Interstate And Local Open Wheel Stars On Show
Author : Archerfield Speedway
A host of international, interstate and local open wheel stars will be on show this Saturday night at Supercheap Cheap Auto Archerfield Speedway with the KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship and Polar Ice Qld Midget Series part of huge programme of events that includes the annual Maroons v Blues Demolition Derby, Fireworks and a whole lot more.
Drivers from New Zealand, Western Australia and New South Wales will make their way to Qld's Home Of Speedway this week to take on the locals in the Polar Ice Series, with New Zealand Midget Champion Michael Pickens heading the list of out-of-towners chasing victory in this weekend's twenty-five lap Feature event.
Pickens, who can list a Saturday night A-Main start in the famed ChiliBowl event in the United States, a fourth NZ Championship, victory in the NZ Midget Grand Prix and a win in the Western Springs Fifty Lapper to his credit already in 2012, will surely start as the favourite but will have to hold off the challenges of Australian Midget Grand Prix winner Mark Brown from NSW and a resurgent Dene McAllan from Perth to do so. Bryn Lake will join McAllan as the two WA representatives in the field of twenty-three this week.
Ironically, if Pickens gets the victory he will break the win streak of his team-mate in the Jack Berry Racing stable Brenan Palmer who has won the past three Polar Ice races at Archerfield and on the back of those performances, currently leads the Series points chase.
In the KRE Series, David Muir will be chasing a three-peat of wins of his own at Archerfield and his fifth victory of the season as he continues to chase down Series point leader Bryan Mann. Muir has narrowed the gap to just forty-one points with five Rounds remaining while defending Series Champion Andrew Scheuerle remains in contention a further fifty-three points back.
Returning to racing after running only a limited schedule so far this season is former Series winner and 2008 Qld Champion Pete Thorley, a welcome name amongst the field of twenty-eight drivers who have nominated for this week's event.
Saturday night's show also includes the Demo Derby, Fireworks, Compact Speedcars, Modlites and Stockcars. Online ticketing is available for this event through the Speedway's website at brisbanespeedway.com.au with Adult general admission tickets just $27.00, Kids 13-15 years $15.00 and Family passes (two adults + two kids) only $65.00. Gates open from 4:00pm, early racing from 4:45pm with the main programme starting at 6:00pm following the National Anthem.
