After a break of just on two months, the V8 Dirt Modifieds return to Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway this Saturday night with newly crowned Australian Champion Mark Robinson heading a very strong driver line-up for Round 5 of the Crossley Racing Engines Series, a line-up that also includes two-time Aussie Champ Peter Britten who Robinson de-throned last month at the National Title in Victoria.
There's little doubt that Qld has positioned itself as one of the real hot-beds of V8 Dirt Modified racing in the country during the past few years and this was no more evident than at this year's National Championship where drivers who regularly compete in the Sunshine State filled four of the top five positions in the Title event.
Toowoomba driver Ray Klarich may be one of the elder statesmen of the division but that is no impediment to his results this season and he picked up a well-deserved third place finish in the Title behind Robinson and Britten while one of the best young talents going around at the moment, David Clarke, was fifth. All four of these drivers have nominated for Saturday night's event at Archerfield.
The nominations list includes Luke Oldfield who has been busy this season switching between the Dirt Modifieds and Sprintcars, notching wins in both divisions at Archerfield and becoming the first and only driver to do so in the process. The Hamilton brothers, Kelvin and Rob, Jai Stephenson who finished third in Round 4 of the Series in January, Kevin Britten and Mick Sauer are also amongst the entries.
Saturday night's event also features the Qld Late Model Championship, AMCA Nationals, Ford v Holden Sedans, Brisbane Sedans and Sigmas. Early racing from 4:45pm, main programme from 6:00pm.
