World Series Australian Sprintcar Open Starts Tonight
Author : Archerfield Speedway
With three nights of the Sprintcar Summer Of Speed in the books - and three different winners claiming the honours in three very good Feature races - fans attending Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway over the past ten days could be excused for wondering if the races they have seen could possibly get any better. Well, they can and will when Night One of the World Series Australian Sprintcar Open, presented by Performance Wholesale, gets under way at Archerfield tonight.
Although World Of Outlaws Champion Jason Meyers and six time Australian Sprintcar Champion Garry Brazier have dropped off the list of nominations due to other commitments, there is a couple of pretty handy replacements in American Tim Schaffer and 2003 Australian Champion Kerry Madsen plus the inclusion of Max Dumesny, a legend of the sport and a multiple time Australian Sprintcar Champion, World Series Sprintcar Champion and former Australian Open winner.
Robbie Farr stopped the American win streak with a hard earned victory in Wednesday night's Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup event after Donny Schatz and Shane Stewart had won the International Sprintcar Features on Boxing Night and New Year's Night respectively, the two Americans not far off the mark though and finishing on the podium alongside Farr after starting further back in the field.
The Open is the first time Brisbane fans will get to see Shaffer in action, the reigning All Star Sprintcar Champion and 2010 Knoxville Nationals winner making his first trip to Archerfield this weekend and he brings the number of Americans in the field to five.
Bryan Mann, the current KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship points leader, is the defending Open winner having won the prestigious event last May from David Murcott and David Muir. A fixture on the Australian Speedway calendar each January, the 2011 running of the Open had to be re-scheduled to later in the season due to the flood waters that inundated the race track during the Qld weather crisis at the time.
Tonight's programme at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway includes the Australian Open qualifying Heats and Preliminary Feature, AMCA Nationals and Modlites with the final round of Heats, Dash, last chance races and the fifty lap, $20,000 to win Final plus Late Models and Wingless Sprints tomorrow night from 6:00pm.
