Archerfield Speedway (also known as Brisbane International
Speedway) is Queensland’s premier dirt track venue.
It’s gates have been open since 1 July 1979 and has been
well-patronised since then.
The venue has played host to many National Championships as
well as World Monster Truck Finals.
Archerfield is a privately owned and operated track and the
current management have promoted the venue since July 2000.
The venue stages approximately 35 speedway events per season
commencing in September and culminating in June each year.
Of this approximately 20 events include
Australia’s leading division –
the 850hp V8 Sprintcars.
The annual calendar usually includes World Series Sprintcar events
as well the Australian Sprintcar Opening paying $20,000 to win,
attracting the best international and interstate drivers.
Each
race event is unique.
Monster Trucks, stunts and Fireworks are all part of the
entertainment adding to the speedway affair.
And whether it is Sprintcars, Super Sedans – a club event
or international meeting, the attraction remains.
The floodlit track sets the scene for action and plenty of it.
Fans scramble to stake claim on their usual vantage points.
Fine-tuned machines spill out onto the track for the
warm-up laps. The
crowd and drivers alike are prepared for the battle.
The atmosphere is heavy with anticipation.
The roar of 850hp V8s let loose….
A special bond exists among speedway fans.
They know the thrill of a hard-fought battle, to close
their eyes and feel the earth shake, to hear the engines groan and
to smell the methanol.
To wait, and watch, to savour the unpredictability of each
